Network Systems Administrator I


The Network / Systems Administrator is a member of the Enterprise Infrastructure team and is responsible for implementation, support and daily administration of the College's enterprise infrastructure. This position regularly interacts with the Information Technology Enterprise Support and Applications teams as well as ITS customers and vendors.

Essential Function: This role will support systems technologies (servers, applications, etc.) and will provide crossover support for network technologies (switching, routing, etc.). In addition to supporting existing systems this role will also provide input into the system design process and will implement designs developed under the leadership of the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure.

Common Responsibilities:
  • Ensures a high level of confidentially, integrity, and availability of the Curry network and systems;
  • Collaborates with the team to troubleshoot incidents by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues;
  • Office 365 cloud management including license management, monitoring and email troubleshooting;
  • Uses ticketing system to record, classify, and resolve client incidents and service requests;
  • Monitors network and systems to ensure resource consumption is within expected tolerances;
  • Assists in supporting the account lifecycle policy for all Active Directory and LDAP services;
  • Manage upgrades, patches, and service releases;
  • Installs, manages and organizes physical network and server hardware;
  • Assists in the development of long-range operational goals for infrastructure systems;
  • Assists in the development, testing and implementation of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan;
  • Assists with documentation management and helps develop new infrastructure documentation;
  • Ensures appropriate preventative maintenance schedules are established and adhered to for enterprise infrastructure.

Professional Development:
  • Stay abreast of up-to-date standards and best practices for infrastructure management, project management, programming / scripting, and tools through ongoing training and professional development;
  • Be cross trained with team members to improve overall administration of systems and applications to ensure efficient and effective delivery of technology resources;
  • Develop personal training plans to enhance technical, analytical and business capability;
  • Promote departmental culture of exemplary customer service though frequent communication, positive relations and prompt support.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures to make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, end-users and staff.
  • Will be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends in response to support and project issues to minimize downtime during production hours and to respond to emergencies.
  • General knowledge of enterprise applications from both technical and user support perspectives.
  • General understanding of the underlying protocols and software stacks that connect networks, clients and servers.
  • Strong written communication, documentation and organizational skills.

Desired Technical Skills:
  • 2 years Windows Server or Linux Administration.
  • 2 years Office 365 management (Exchange Online, Azure AD).
  • 1 year Server or Network Hardware management.
  • Active Directory account management, understanding of groups and user permissions, etc.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, especially VLANs and routing concepts.
  • Scripting in PowerShell and/or Bash.
  • VMware vSphere management.
  • Firewall and VPN management (Fortigate).
  • Aruba wireless and Extreme network switches.

Salary Range:

$70,000 to $75,000 annually
