ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be a Practice Leader within the Education Practice and participate and engage in firm-wide Education leadership calls, advancement of strategic initiatives and client pursuit discussions and strategies. As part of the global education team, you will lead planning activities that increase the team's specialized knowledge about our clients, and develop solutions based on client needs while mentoring less experienced planners architects and designers across the Education practice.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead, develop and nurture a successful partnering relationship with our clients which will lead to future opportunities for CannonDesign for the Education Market.
  • Generate and support a positive team environment: participation, empowerment, and accomplishment.
  • Provide client and project leadership and subject matter expertise. Lead and own the client relationship in these areas. Work in partnership with our designers and other team members to advance a holistic approach to design.
  • Bring state of the art client and industry intelligence to the client. Ensure that the teams, including the client, is fully aware of the current and projected trends impacting the client, and that decisions are made with the awareness of that knowledge.
  • Provoke critical thinking and encourage innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Capture and communicate key client goals and metrics to ensure specialty requirements positively impact client business performance.
  • Understanding of urban planning and development and local government policies and procedures.
  • Overlay approaches land use planning/zoning, transportation planning, environmental planning, urban design, housing, , historic preservation or economic development to develop comprehensive planning strategies.
  • Bring to bear methods and statistical principles related to growth and development whether through campus enrollment, population and/or demographic profiles.
  • Develop a partnering relationship with the client early in an engagement to establish shared expectations and provide clarity on how we will work together, the involvement of key stakeholders, and the timing of key decisions in hopes of growing client trust and loyalty.
  • Implement CannonDesign Method using process expectations, best practices, reference standards, tools, templates, and technology to achieve competitive advantage, superior service delivery and quality, and enhanced team productivity and profitability.
  • Align work effort and resources with contract and compensation commitments and proactively address changes, including additional services as required.
  • Ensure frequent, regular team communication to share information, optimize results, and build positive team dynamics and mentorship.
  • Provide new net signed fee opportunities by partnering with our existing clients in the implementation of the work.
  • Build top line by securing "direct select", repeat business and additional services with our clients.
  • Champion our Omnichannel approach by promoting and cross selling all markets, practices, and integrated services throughout all phases of client engagement.
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor degree in planning architecture, Landscape Architecture or related degree required. Masters preferred.
  • 10 years minimum experience functioning as a subject matter expert in the planning of projects in the Education market.
  • Additional certifications and/or training relevant to this role is preferred.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Business acumen and proven ability to execute strategy.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by the ability to communicate authentically and respectfully.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, and database management, GIS programs and applications.
  • Must be innovative, detail-oriented, experienced in highly visible/controversial projects.
  • Capable of managing multiple, high-priority assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships with staff, officials and stakeholders and to resolve complaints.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematic techniques in practical situations.
  • Reading comprehension to understand technical and legal materials.
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to provide effective supervision and staff management.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively and meet firm deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and conduct in-person and virtual public participation activities, meetings and hearings.
  • Some travel required.
