Job Details:

General Summary

Reports to Principal Investigator and is responsible for assisting with the design, implementation, and evaluation of various research projects.

Principal Duties & Essential Functions/Skills

The John Conant Davis Myeloma and Amyloid Program at Tufts Medical Center in Boston provides the clinical context for translational research conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Raymond Comenzo. We are a collegial laboratory with full-time research scientists and technical support staff. We focus on the genetics of clonal antibody-producing cells and the structure of immunoglobulin light chains and their chaperones. On-going projects include a nation-wide study screening patients with smoldering multiple myeloma for risk of undiagnosed systemic AL amyloidosis with next generation sequencing of immunoglobulin variable region genes; assessment of the cellular basis in the humoral immune system for antibody-mediated rejection of solid organ transplants; creation of heterohybridomas that produce confirmed pathologic patient-derived antibodies and light chains; and assessing the microenvironmental response to light-chain amyloid in the bone marrow and the role of lipoprotein light-chain chaperones. All of our projects have significant translational potential. Our goal is to identify therapeutic targets and advance novel therapeutic agents and biomarkers from bench to bedside. We are a wet-lab but work in close collaboration with computational biologists and manage a unique biospecimen bank that contains blood and tissue samples from patients with plasma cell disorders and recipients of solid organ transplants. A strong background in molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques is required.

In addition to submitting the online application, applicants must send the following via e-mail to Dr. Raymond Comenzo (). A CV including details of PhD, a list of publications, manuscripts in preparation and technical skills, a one-page cover letter stating reasons for the scientific interest in the lab, an outline of potential postdoctoral research projects and career goals, and names and contact information for at least 3 references.
