Utility Operator is an entry level position, which is a great opportunity for individuals looking to work in the power industry. Working under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the individual will be responsible for general labor duties at the Energy from Waste facility. Utility Operators must maintain their work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner and comply with all safety and operational policies and procedures. This position will be involved in plant projects and forced boiler outages.

Utility Operators at Covanta receive competitive wages of at least $23 per hour and have overtime available. Comprehensive Company Benefits are included. Medical Insurance & other Benefits begin DAY ONE of Employment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning
  • Painting
  • Grounds keeping
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Operation of mobile equipment, including skid steer loader and forklift
  • Working in the boilers during maintenance outages
  • Helping to erect scaffolding
  • Moving equipment and materials
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Perform safety inspections

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license.
  • Prior experience in an industrial environment is desired.
  • Must obtain a MA Hoisting license to operate mobile equipment within 6-months of hire.
  • Must be able to work rotating work schedule with nights, and some weekends
