Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a staff electromechanical engineer to join our Test Infrastructure Team in our Somerville, MA facility. This role will contribute to defining the system-level architecture, detailed controls, and electrical design of Form Energy's test infrastructure.

Reporting to the Manager of Test Infrastructure, this role will be integral to proving our sub-scale and full-scale cells and battery module performance. You will contribute to developing and deploying novel, state-of-the-art test equipment, contributing towards the hardware and software development of our test capabilities, and providing technical mentorship to a growing team. We are a hands-on team who all love diving into challenging problems like test troubleshooting and solving these problems for future tests. What you'll do:
  • Own the electrical and electromechanical design of Form's test stands, including power distribution design, harnessing, safety and interlocks, and data collection

  • Design and develop electromechanical and electrical systems in support of test stand safety, improvements, and simplification

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering the growth and problem-solving skills across team members

  • Work with internal and external teams to bring your designs to fruition

  • Engage with stakeholders to align on test stand requirements

  • Troubleshoot and root-cause test setups for battery modules and cells

What you'll bring:
  • A degree in Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering or a related field; bachelor's with 7+ years, or master's with 3+ years of relevant experience developing medium to high volume electrical/automation equipment

  • Proven experience with electrical and mechanical design and proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, NX, etc.)

  • Experience with scripted programming languages like Python for instrument control and/or data analysis

  • Experience working with data acquisition systems (Keysight, National Instruments, etc.)

  • Familiarity with PLCs/HMIs

  • Knowledge of designing electrical test setups to both minimize resources for setup and maximize the length of the test without interruption

  • Leadership, the ability to mentor, and well-developed communication, collaboration, and engagement skills working with a variety of teams and stakeholders

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment
