Description

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT

The IOM Technology Lead will support IOM's, and eventually clinical neurophysiology's, sub-specialized technology needs and ensure that IOM services, which rely heavily on specialized medical technology as well as some real-time remote review of neuromonitoring signaling data, are functional and safe across the division. This person will closely partner and have formal established indirect reporting relationships with MGB Digital, hospital-specific Biomedical Engineering departments, and relevant division directors.

The overarching goal of this position is to manage IOM's, and eventually clinical neurophysiology's, distinct, subspecialized technology needs in a consistent way across the MGB system, and in partnership with central MGB Digital and Biomedical Engineering. This position aligns with the broader visions of MGB Digital and Biomedical Engineering to create satellite leadership positions in clinical departments that both tie into the central system-wide infrastructure, but also have sub-specialty expertise to meet niche technology needs. The IOM Technology Lead will also collaborate with existing technical experts in neurology departments, including clinical engineers, chief technologists and others.

The initial intent of this role is to focus 100% effort on the intraoperative neuromonitoring division at BWH & MGH, under the direction of the MGH & BWH IOM Division Director. This person will participate in longer term planning to align technology across both academic medical center IOM programs, and possibly community-based IOM programs in the MGB system.

The IOM Technology Lead will provide engineering services, including the selection, acquisition, and service of medical devices, technical investigations of clinical incidents, and clinical/technical problem-solving. They may educate technologists about basic theories of system operation, lead quality improvement activities, or suggest innovative solutions to technical problems. They will develop strong working relationships with the technology vendors that supply the services.
