Ocean Spray Cranberries is looking for a Principal Process Engineer to join our R&D team! In this role, you will provide technical leadership to manufacturing process improvement efforts. You will lead and oversee process engineering projects, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions and improve operational performance. You will also lead plant experimentation initiatives, testing new processes for broader use by the Cooperative. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, maintain long-term innovative strategies with R&D leadership, and collaborate with external research facilities.A Day in the Life...
With minimum supervision, interact with the cross-functional team to develop new products and execute experimentation in the lab, Pilot Plant, and manufacturing environments.
Apply food science and engineering knowledge and assist to determine best ways to process, package, preserve, store, and distribute foods.
Coordinate and perform trials in Pilot Plant and factory to insure correct experimental execution.
Confer and coordinate with cross-functional partners such as food technologists, engineers, plant operators, sensory experts, packaging, marketing, and sales in order to drive the product development process.
Investigates equipment, ingredient, and process innovations through suppliers, co-packers, and technical literature.
Contribution of new ideas to innovation pipeline.
What We Are Looking For:
BS Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred)
7+ Years of relevant experience, including experience in a food/bev processing plant and experience in R&D, capital project management, lean manufacturing
35% travel requirement
Troubleshooting skills
Experience in thermal processing, heat exchangers, hot fill juice production, batching systems, product recovery systems, CIP technology, and bulk receiving systems
Production & Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Food Production: Knowledge of techniques for planting, growing and harvesting food products (both plant and animal) for consumption, including storage/handling techniques.
Knowledge of current consumer goods, trends, and technologies.
Critical thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Judgment & Decision Making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Self-starter: The ability to handle multiple projects at one time and proactively seek and expand knowledge base.
Working knowledge of product development and familiarity with quality assurance procedures
