Position: Manager of Rehab Therapies
Department: Rehabilitation Therapies- Hyde Park Rehab
Schedule: Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage the programs and staff of the rehabilitation services department to ensure fulfillment of the department and the hospital's mission and goals. Sets and implements guidelines for rehabilitation programs including physical therapy and occupational therapy. The Manager is responsible to the Director for administrative, managerial, and operational functions, as well as all clinical functions, and direct patient care activities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Manages employees, performs orientation and training, and conducts administrative and clerical tasks in a manner that facilitates effective intra/inter department business.

  • Completes time schedules accurately and on-time.
  • Performs QA audits to ensure quality of care provided and departmental compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Ensures the efficient delivery of patient focused services in area of responsibility in accordance withapplicable policies, procedures, and professional standards in order to achieve department goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the planning and development of departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Monitors subordinate performance. Takes corrective action to ensure departmental standards are upheld. Manages the human resource function within the department in order to achieve quality, compliant, patient focused services and positive employee relations in accordance with the Human Resources Department's policies, procedures, and guidelines. Conducts staff assessments and performance reviews. Monitors staff productivity to ensure that the department is operating within targeted productivity standards and consistent with established clinical standards. Assist in selecting candidates for employment, as directed. Utilizes hospital's cultural beliefs as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital's mission and goals.

Conducts activities to ensure the further training and development of the Rehabilitation staff and other patient care personnel to ensure the quality of Rehabilitation services.

  • Orients new employees to ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Functions as a resource for complex patient care problems to rehab staff and other health care providers to ensure professional development and quality of patient care.
  • Participates in rounds or other multidisciplinary trainings across the hospital as needed.
  • Represents the Rehabilitation Services Department on relevant Hospital Committees.
  • Responsible for communication within the department as well as throughout the organization and externally to the community to ensure the pertinent information is shared for effective operations; to develop collaborative programs; to promote availability of services; and to demonstrate a positive image of the department and the organization.

Ensures the continued professional educational development of staff to ensure clinical skills are up to date and staff are knowledgeable and capable of delivering the highest quality care.

  • Maintains clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure the use of up to date methods in care giving.
  • Attends continuing education classes during the year.
  • Tracks and holds staff accountable for meeting educational goals
  • Coordinates regular staff meetings.
  • Maintains membership in professional organizations
  • Participates in continuing education opportunities to support leadership development. Exhibits personal and professional pride and self-development.

Follows all organization and departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Operates all Rehab equipment and performs all therapy interventions in a safe manner.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions requiring physical lifting or moving of patients.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of established emergency, infection control and/or universal precaution procedures as required.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

Provides departmental leadership in setting annual goals, developing strategy, and driving high performance

  • Works with Director of Rehabilitation Services to set, monitor, and meet targeted volume goals
  • Works closely with Rehabilitation Leadership to set, monitor, and meet targeted quality improvement goals
  • Builds buy-in to goals with staff; creates dialogue with staff to provide constructive feedback
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment as appropriate to meet the operational demands of the department
  • Collects and analyzes data related to performance of department in order to convey key operating information to administration when requested
  • Responsible for communication within the Rehabilitation Services Department as well as throughout the organization to ensure that pertinent information is shared for effective operations
  • Assists in developing departmental budget within designated deadlines according to all budgetary policies and procedures Efficiently manages the fiscal affairs of the department in accordance with established fiscal and budgetary policy and procedures in order to ensure the proper utilization of department financial resources.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs other duties as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATION:

Requires a Master's Degree in either Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy. Doctorate degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts PT or OT license. APTA, AOTA membership preferred.

American Heart Association BLS CPR required

EXPERIENCE:

Requires advanced knowledge of clinical and administrative issues including a minimum of 7 years' experience. At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Analytical abilities necessary to evaluate patient needs and formulate long range program planning, integrating advanced clinical and administrative knowledge.
  • Interpersonal, verbal, and written skills necessary to provide leadership to staff and promote and maintain effective relationships with patients, hospital personnel, and outside institutions.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers.
