Generative AI/Machine Learning for Drug Design Co-op

Cambridge, MA

Requisition Number: 24-Co-op10

How will your role help us transform hope into reality?

Blueprint Medicines has built an integrated platform that combines genomics expertise with a novel kinase inhibitor library. Blueprint is also actively exploring novel modalities to inhibit kinase function through non-ATP competitive binders and as well as considering protein targets outside kinases. To aid in our mission of rapidly developing highly selective compounds to address clear genomic drivers of disease, we have been developing state-of-the-art computational molecule design and optimization tools for Medicinal and Computational Chemists. As part of this effort, the Computational Chemistry group at Blueprint Medicines is seeking a talented 4-6-month Co-Op student interested in developing cutting-edge machine learning/artificial intelligence models particularly generative AI models to accelerate drug discovery design cycles. This is a unique opportunity to work on a project of relevance for many pharmaceutical and biotech companies and to learn about drug discovery in a real-world setting and understand the scope and impact of applied machine learning and programming.

What will you do?

  • Design, develop and deploy the state-of-the-art generative AI models on chemical data sets with applications to de novo molecule design with favorable druglike-ness properties
  • Integrate molecule generative models with the multiparameter optimization architecture (generic algorithm, Bayesian optimization, reinforcement Learning, etc) to enable iterative molecule design and optimization
  • Collaborate closely with the computational chemistry group and other cross-functional teams including Research IT, MedChem, BioChem, DMPK, etc.
  • Document your developments and communicate scientific results in internal/external conferences
  • Drive the publications of the project to peer-reviewed scientific journals

What minimum qualifications do we require?

  • A PhD/Master student (preferred) in computational chemistry, cheminformatics or computational science/machine learning/deep learning with a concentration in chemistry discovery; exceptional Bachelor students in their last year of studies are encouraged to apply
  • Proficiency with Python programming and deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, and cheminformatics toolkit such as RDKit, ChemAxon, OpenEye, etc

What additional qualifications will make you a stronger candidate?

  • Working experience with deep generative models and reinforcement learning is preferred
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to our Core Values: Patients First, Thoughtfulness, Urgency, Trust, Optimism

Blueprint Medicines is a fully integrated, commercial-stage, global biopharmaceutical company that invents life-changing medicines in two core, strategic areas of allergy/inflammation and oncology/hematology. We pursue discovery, development, and commercialization of therapies that potently and selectively target known drivers of disease, with focused investment in therapeutic areas where we can leverage our core expertise and business infrastructure to bring scale to our science. We are bringing an approved medicine to people living with systemic mastocytosis (SM) in the U.S. and Europe. Additionally, we have a pipeline of research and development programs that range from early science to advanced clinical trials in mast cell-mediated diseases, including SM and chronic urticaria, breast cancer, and other solid tumors vulnerable to CDK2 inhibition.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
