I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled on the pneumatic tube systems throughout various buildings including underground between buildings, as well as repair on regular schedules and emergency situations. All repair and maintenance records to be recorded as required.
2. Performs general preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, and repairs various equipment and systems such as, but not limited to, pneumatic tube system, laboratory gas systems, air pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps, alarm panels, valves, gauges, water purification systems, refrigeration systems, sterilizers, lab instruments, kitchen appliances, etc.
3. Perform building maintenance as needed, such as replacing light bulbs and related items. Repair walls and paint as needed.
4. Assists with the creation of new and or improved work area's or layouts as needed.
5. Assists with generator and electric testing as directed.
6. Assists with major repairs and installation of equipment and systems.
7. Fabricates minor repair parts and components as required.
8. Troubleshoots, evaluates and identifies problems with mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems, pneumatic tube systems and responds appropriately. Assist with training coworkers in these areas as needed.
9. May perform sheet metal cutting, welding, and soldering duties.
10. Assembles and installs large pieces of furniture, cabinets, lab benches, counter tops, office cubicles, refrigeration equipment and other large lab equipment.
11. Must move, maneuver and place large pieces of delicate, expensive lab equipment in limited spaces using pallet jacks, furniture movers or equipment on wheels.
12. Maintains all required records and records all work not assigned on maintenance work log on computer system. Completes work slips. Calls in work orders for maintenance items that cannot be completed.
13. Maintains a clean and safe work area at all times. Practices proper care and safe use of maintenance tools, equipment and supplies. Adheres to safety standards, procedures, regulations and building codes. Reports all unsafe equipment and building related issues.
14. Responds to and assesses various calls and emergencies as required or directed. Responds to emergency calls. Troubleshoots equipment problems and performs repairs as required.
15. Responds to all pages when on call in a timely fashion and address pneumatic tube system problems and questions expeditiously. Maintain all daily records for the pneumatic tube system when on call or requested to do so. Keep Supervisor or Lead Technician aware of any parts that have been ordered for the Tube system.
16. Keeps updated on all related medical equipment safety codes/recommendations that are established by regulatory agencies - ie: Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA, FDA, AAMI, ASHE, ANSI, etc. All requirements must be met in reference to any medical equipment related recall. Documentation and follow-up are critical in these situations.
17. Demonstrates customer focus skills and good interpersonal relationships.
18. Assists with ordering parts and supplies as needed. Schedule outside vendors or services as necessary.
19. Assists as needed with the creation of the monthly On Call schedule for the Pneumatic Tube System coverage (24/7) taking into consideration holidays, vacations, etc.

II. Position Qualifications:


License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. High School graduate or GED.
Preferred:
1. Trade school completion.

Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. Minimum of 4 years' experience in a large facilities maintenance environment, working from specifications, schedules and general instructions requiring interpretation in various applications.
2. Ability to read, write, calculate and follow instructions and procedures.
3. Knowledge of basic plumbing, heating, electrical, pneumatic tube systems, lab gas systems and mechanical techniques and repair principles directly related to patient lab results.
4. Basic computer skills necessary.
5. Employees must be at least 18 years of age to perform this role.
6. Must have ability to drive up to a 24 foot truck in a city environment.
7. Required to be on-call on a rotating schedule as required by department.
8. Required to carry beeper and cell phone at work to communicate with other team members.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered of medium to heavy physical demand.Position requires work both indoors and outdoors in a patient care environment. Must be able to work at times in small confined high spaces. Must be able to work in small, confined manhole spaces in the ground. Must be able to respond to emergency calls on off hours as required.
