Hematology Oncology Advanced Practice Provider
Join a supportive Advanced Practice Team in a role supporting the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in Danvers, MA. This community-based practice specializes in the care of patients with a variety of hematologic oncologic diagnoses. Specifically, this role would focus on both hematologic malignancies and solid tumor patient populations. These teams have a demonstrated history of providing exquisite, evidence-based patient care. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to work in this invigorating and collaborative environment. The hematologic oncologic APP will provide direct care to outpatient patients at our Danvers site. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers, professional nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care in the management of their disease and related issues as well as to develop expertise in these fields. Within this role, the advanced practice provider will be responsible for a panel of patients. Other responsibilities include caring for patients throughout their continuum of care and fostering collaboration with other professionals within the hospital and clinics to facilitate patient care.
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT
This APP provides outpatient care to the hematologic oncologic patient population. This provider develops, implements, and evaluates a plan of specialized health care for this oncology patient population throughout the care continuum. Promotes a professional and collaborative relationship and effort between the advanced practice team, medical staff, professional nursing staff, and administrative staff. Strives to provide and to ensure continuity of care for patients, while being efficient in use of resources. This provider serves as a role model for professional advance practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives to name a few. In addition to clinical skills, this person should possess strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively with other members of the team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The hematologic oncologic NP/PA provides direct care in collaboration with the attending physicians and respective disease center teams. The NP/PA will be responsible for:
Provides consultation to both nurses and physicians and serves as a resource to staff in area(s) of expertise.
Collaborates with staff and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs.
Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.
Supports and conducts research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.
Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
No direct budgetary responsibility.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Demonstrated competence in specialized area.
Ability to effectively communicate clinical information, care plans, etc. to medical and lay audiences, able to educate patients and their families and caregivers regarding routine and complex medical information.
Skilled in creating appropriate documentation and use of electronic medical records to consistently provide high quality and timely documentation including progress notes, sign-off notes, and discharge planning.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team; can effectively influence and lead as necessary.
Effectively uses analytical skills and problem-solving techniques in both clinical and operational matters.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Forty hours per week
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
Master's Degree in Nursing or completion of NCCPA program.
Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a registered NP/PA.
Current certification as a nurse practitioner in appropriate specialty to care for adult patients.
EXPERIENCE:
2 Years Advanced Practice experience preferred; prior hematology/oncology experience preferred. Proficiency with Epic and EMRs preferred. Familiarity with clinical trials preferred.
