RECOVERY COACH
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for a Recovery Coach in the Department of Health and Human Services. Under the direction of the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, the Recovery Coach will connect with individuals from the community who are currently struggling with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The Recovery Coach will provide this population services that include efforts to encourage attendance and participation in recovery groups, initial assessment and referral, assistance with access to treatment, rapid identification of treatment and care needs, peer counseling and support, relapse prevention/intervention, patient tracking, ongoing patient support, and facilitation of communication across systems of care. This is a part-time position, budgeted at 19 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

  • Build relationships and trust with individuals struggling with SUD
  • Establish and maintain relationships with organizations serving this population and make appropriate referrals
  • Serve as a liaison between the recovery community, the addiction treatment system, the medical treatment system, and other wrap around services (i.e. nutrition, housing, employment, etc.)
  • Provide transportation as needed for clients to clinical appointments and wraparound service appointments (i.e. meetings with landlords, clinical appointments, etc.)
  • Weekly office hours at the Worcester Public Library to connect with target population
  • Attend Continuum of Care meetings to support the needs of chronically homeless individuals who are also struggling with SUD
  • Attend meetings as directed to address the needs of individuals struggling with SUD
  • Input and collect data for a comprehensive system of client tracking and case management
  • Utilize RedCap data management systems for client tracking

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding and experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Strong understanding of the social determinants of health and health equity
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed human service approaches
  • Strong understanding of harm reduction strategies as they affect individuals with SUD
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Ability to conceptualize and organize projects into manageable tasks
  • Must have excellent time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency in electronic databases
  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Recovery Coach certification or obtain certification within six months of hire date
  • Lived experience with recovery
  • Three years of experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Trained in Narcan administration and/or other harm reduction strategies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual
  • Five years of experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working as a recovery coach or case manager at a human services agency in Worcester

SALARY: $24.79 per hour, part-time, non-benefitted.
